Say Bye Bye For A Little While (A Letter From My Mind)
Growing up I use to visit some family upstate. The times that I would spend with them were either summers or Christmas. My two cousins were like brothers to me (real talk). Going to their house in West Haverstraw was like going to a family I never had.
Taking me back home some years back my uncle said a phrase. A phrase that was new to me at the time. Black folk of the south must've said this on a regular. Being the nine year old I was I simply asked my uncle what did this phrase mean.
In a playful but loving tone my uncle responded by saying "You wont be gone forever. Eventually you'll be back. Next time of course."
Age 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19, and beyond had passed and my uncle's words were his bond. Of course things have changed. Currently, my uncle is almost a senior citizen and is recovering from a kidney transplant at the moment. Today I'm a blogger/History lover. Ambition is my fuel. I'm just trying to reach my own greatness.
Thankful forever I will always be for my uncle. He was the only men in my life that was a consistent example of real manhood. The morals he installed in his sons are always shown. My aunt was always treated with respect. Proudly I can call myself one their sons.
My only hope at this point is that my uncle's voice is smooth enough to say that phrase one more time. Say bye bye for a little while.
